5Ds Of A Successful Entrepreneur

The journey of an entrepreneur begins with big ideas.

But what does it take to make those ideas real?

And, is every entrepreneur successful at doing so?

How you make your ideas real depends on multiple factors. There is no single template that an entrepreneur can use.

As far as success goes, while it cannot be guaranteed, it can definitely be aimed toward.

However, there are some secrets that can help an entrepreneur maximize their chances of success.

Here are the top 5 most I have personally believed and lived by.

Dream

Mark Twain famously said, “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover”.

The true entrepreneurs are those who dare to dream and define a vision for themselves. Steve Jobs introduced a cigarette-box-size digital music player and the World has not been the same again.

What are your dreams?. It’s time you dust them off. If someone’s dream has given you a better life, your dreams can make this world a better place too.

Decisive

Stephen Covey put it so well, “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.”

Entrepreneurship is all about decision making. It’s a consistent branching logic that defines your journey. A decision can take you to the pinnacle or make you hit the ocean bed. No one ever has been right all the time.

The important thing is to ride the journey whatever the outcome may be. In fact, you learn more when you lose than when you win. It’s so important to back your decisions and never regret.

“Entrepreneurship is neither a science nor an art. It is a practice.” – Peter Drucker.

A wise entrepreneur will always reflect and learn.

Doers

Nolan Bushnell, an entrepreneur nailed it, “The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”

How many of them have we come across in life who has said, “Gosh! I had this idea 2 years earlier and this guy did it”. It’s really not about who had an idea, it’s about how they did it.

If you have an idea, it’s time to get out of your comfort and start acting on it so you don’t utter that sentence 2 years from now. Good Luck!

Devotion

Steve Jobs gave this simple advice, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do”. The real entrepreneurs are those who don’t do what they do for the sake of money. They do it for the love.

They do it with a commitment to leave this world a better place. They do it for people to adore what they do. They do it to find a purpose in what they do.

“Don’t start a company unless it’s an obsession and something you love. If you have an exit strategy, it’s not an obsession” – Mark Cuban

If you are starting up and looking to build a brand that people love, make sure that you are obsessed with what you do!

Destiny

William Jennings said, “Destiny is not a matter of chance. It’s a matter of choice. it is not to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved”. The true entrepreneurs know this so well.

The greatest thing about entrepreneurship is not just the fact that you get to define your own destiny but have a chance to make a lot of people achieve their destiny along the way.

“The more you follow others the further you will walk from your own destiny. Follow your own star and illumine the world in your own way.”

Last but not the least, “Regret is not when you could not finish what you started but regret is when you do not start what you could have finished.”

Success is the sum of experience and effort

Entrepreneurship is a long journey. It is not for people who start doubting themselves after the first failure.

And it is definitely not for those who think up ideas but never put it to work.

Being devoted to transforming an idea into a real product, into something that users would love and cherish— that is entrepreneurship.

Getting to work everyday and getting everyone to work, no matter how tough the times are— that is entrepreneurship.

As much as it is an outer exploration of what can be made, it is also an inner realization that every dream can become real.
