Pinterest is dominated by women says study [Presentation]

80% of the users on Pinterest are women and they do 92% of the pinning on the site says a recent research by RJMetrics on the Pinterest demographics, user activity and behavior. The study which took a dataset of 50,000 random pinners and their pins revealed some interesting stats on the visual bookmarking site. Here are the highlights of the research:
  1. 4/5th of the Pinterest users (80%) are female, and 1/5th of them (20%) are male.
  2. Female users are more active on Pinterest as they do 92% of all pinning, men account for only 8% of the pins.
  3. An average active female user made 158 pins over the past year.
  4. 32% of the pinning happen during the core work day (10am to 4pm) and 18% of the pinning happens in the late night 9pm to midnight.
  5. The following are the popular categories among women pinners: “Food & Drink” account for 20% of the pins, “DIY (Do-It-Yourself) & Crafts” account for 12% of the pins and “Home Decor” account for 11% of the pins.
